Meet Rohama

Welcome! I’m Rohama, the founder of Afloat Psychotherapy, and I’m so glad you're here.

I understand that trusting someone can be challenging, especially when it comes to opening up about the personal experiences that matter most to you.

In our work together, my role is to support you in creating the life you envision. While there’s no quick fix, we’ll work together to uncover the resilience and strength you already possess, helping you navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

As a South-Asian woman and former international student trying to find her own place in Canada, I can relate to the complexities of balancing cultural, societal, and familial expectations while finding your own place here.

My goal as your therapist is always to provide a safe, empathetic and unwaveringly supportive environment where together we can explore what might be bringing you challenges.

Keeping You Afloat

We all go through times in life when it feels like we’re barely staying afloat—some days, it’s manageable, and other times, it feels like the weight of the world is pulling us under. Here at Afloat Psychotherapy, together, we work on keeping you afloat.

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I offer a space where you feel safe, respected and truly heard—no matter your background or experiences. Together, we’ll explore whatever challenges you’re facing, whether they’re new or have been with you for a while, and figure out a path forward that feels right for you.

I draw on a variety of evidence-based approaches, like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Narrative Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). But at the heart of it all, I’m here to meet you where you are and support you as we navigate this journey together.

I work with individuals, teens and young adults on a variety of mental health concerns, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship and family conflicts, with an added specialization in neurodivergence and ADHD.

FAQs

  • Psychotherapy: A Path to Self-Discovery

Psychotherapy, also known as therapy, can help you manage a variety of mental health concerns using evidence-based approaches. Therapy is not focused on fixing you or fixing a problem, but rather a process to help you uncover your strengths and live the life you want to live.

Through collaborative exploration with a trained professional, you can gain insights into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This journey of self-discovery enables you to develop coping strategies, enhance emotional regulation, and foster resilience.

Stigma around therapy exists everywhere but specifically in ethnic or South Asian communities. Recognizing that ignoring or pretending like mental health doesn’t exist only invalidates your experiences and your desire to pursue therapy is something you can control.

  • I draw from a variety of modalities in my work, there is no one approach fits all model. I tend to draw a variety from modalities, experiences and trainings that benefit my clients and their concerns.

Modalities are the techniques therapists use to help their clients. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment based therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused-Therapy, Narrative therapy and more. My work is more focused on creating a safe environment to help you see the change you are seeking.
