Meet Rohama
Therapy That Understands the Whole Story
Hi, I’m Rohama, the founder of Afloat Psychotherapy.
As a South Asian woman and former international student, I understand what it can feel like to navigate the complexities of identity, belonging, and finding your place in a new environment. My own experiences adjusting to life in Canada have shaped the way I approach therapy — with curiosity, compassion, and an understanding that our mental health is influenced by our culture, relationships, family expectations, and lived experiences.
I know that seeking therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when you are looking for someone who understands the parts of your experience that may be difficult to explain. Many individuals I work with are navigating questions around identity, achievement, relationships, emotional overwhelm, or the pressure to meet expectations while also trying to understand themselves.
At Afloat Psychotherapy, I provide a space where you do not have to minimize your experiences or explain every cultural nuance before feeling understood. Together, we explore your challenges, recognize your strengths, and develop strategies that support the life you want to create.
My approach is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive. I draw from evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Narrative Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to support individuals in building self-awareness, emotional resilience, and meaningful change.
Whether you are navigating anxiety, ADHD and neurodivergence, life transitions, relationships, or questions of identity and belonging, therapy can be a space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Keeping you Afloat
Starting therapy can feel like a big step. You may be wondering where to begin, what to talk about, or whether your experiences are “enough” to seek support.
At Afloat Psychotherapy, therapy is a collaborative process. We believe you are the expert in your own life, and our role is to support you in understanding yourself, navigating challenges, and creating meaningful change.
Together, we can explore the thoughts, emotions, patterns, and experiences that may be affecting your wellbeing while building tools that help you move forward with greater confidence and self-compassion.
Therapy is not about fixing who you are. It is about creating a space where you can better understand yourself, reconnect with your values, and develop skills that support the life you want to build.
Whether you are navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, identity transitions, relationships, ADHD and neurodivergence, or major life changes, you do not have to navigate these experiences alone.

Psychotherapy: A Path to Self-Discovery
Psychotherapy, also known as therapy, can help you manage a variety of mental health concerns using evidence-based approaches. Therapy is not focused on fixing you or fixing a problem, but rather a process to help you uncover your strengths and live the life you want to live.
Through collaborative exploration with a trained professional, you can gain insights into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This journey of self-discovery enables you to develop coping strategies, enhance emotional regulation, and foster resilience.
Stigma around therapy exists everywhere but specifically in ethnic or South Asian communities. Recognizing that ignoring or pretending like mental health doesn’t exist only invalidates your experiences and your desire to pursue therapy is something you can control.

I draw from a variety of modalities in my work, there is no one approach fits all model. I tend to draw a variety from modalities, experiences and trainings that benefit my clients and their concerns.
Modalities are the techniques therapists use to help their clients. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment based therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused-Therapy, Narrative therapy and more. My work is more focused on creating a safe environment to help you see the change you are seeking.
